Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health & Safety Manager to join our client, SaxaVord Spaceport. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety, compliance, and well-being of all employees and stakeholders involved in their operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures that align with legal requirements and industry standards. Responsibilities

• Developing, administering, and maintaining an effective Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with regulation 163 and Schedule 4 (ERP) of the Space Industry Regulations (SIR) 2021.
• Ensuring all licensed activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Part 11 of the SIR 2021.
• Monitoring compliance with safety policies and procedures across all licensed activities.
• Establishing, implementing, and maintaining processes to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of employees and other affected individuals.
• Reporting on Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) performance to senior management and identifying areas for improvement.
• Promoting HSE training and awareness throughout the organisation.
• Coordinating with safety personnel from other organizations, including customers and contractors, to ensure compliance with UK safety regulations.
• Analyzing safety cases from clients to ensure alignment with UK safety regulations and the SaxaVord SMS.
• Developing health and safety policies and procedures to foster a "safety-first" culture across the spaceport and support sites.
• Monitoring and mentoring personnel to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
• Delivering training and awareness programs to promote a strong safety culture, including engaging external providers when necessary.
• Tracking health and safety incidents and conducting investigations as required.
• Allocating time effectively across various responsibilities:
  • 30% as Safety Manager in accordance with SIA 2018 and SIR 2021.
  • 60% as HSE Manager for SaxaVord Spaceport activities, including support sites.
  • 10% supporting the Grantown-on-Spey site with safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

• Relevant qualifications in safety management or a related field (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent).
• Strong technical knowledge of safety standards, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, dependent regulations, and HSE guidelines.
• Demonstrated expertise in risk and COSHH assessment methods and techniques.
• Proven experience in analysing operations to determine necessary control and mitigation measures for safety.
• Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
• Membership in relevant UK/International safety bodies (e.g., IOSH, CHAS accreditation).
• Familiarity with ISO standards and certifications, particularly ISO 45001.
• Background in aviation/aerospace safety management.
• Knowledge of COMAH regulations.
