Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Workshop Technician to join our clients Engineering Department in Aberdeen. This is a permanent position that plays a critical role in ensuring the repair, service, and calibration of their equipment meet the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction. Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, you will be part of a small, dynamic team that supports a diverse customer base, including oil companies, rental companies, survey companies, shipyards, and fleet owners.

Responsibilities

As a Workshop Technician, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing complex and standard repairs, services, and calibrations of company equipment, including component-level repairs, while adhering to agreed timescales and quality standards.
  • Providing accurate and timely repair quotations and logging them in the Syspro ERP system.
  • Liaising with customers’ technical representatives to provide updates on repair status and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Guiding and supporting the Trainee Workshop Technician by offering technical advice and ensuring their work aligns with company standards.
  • Assisting the Workshop Supervisor in generating weekly management reports on repair statuses and operational issues.
  • Escalating any issues affecting delivery, operational efficiency, or customer satisfaction to the Workshop Supervisor and relevant internal departments, along with proposed solutions.
  • Deputising for the Workshop Supervisor in their absence by coordinating daily work allocation and providing technical supervision on complex repairs and services.
  • Ensuring compliance with all company and customer quality processes and procedures, while actively contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Installing, commissioning, and repairing the full range of company products at customer premises, rigs, vessels, and dockyards worldwide, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications

Essential:

  • HNC/HND in Electronics.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in electronic fault finding.
  • Experience in performing standard and complex repair, service, and calibration tasks.
  • Proficiency in reading wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Ability to debug circuits at resistor, capacitor, transistor, and IC levels.
  • Proven experience in mechanical assembly.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills.

Desirable:

  • Extensive knowledge of underwater technology products.
  • Experience in delegating work and providing technical guidance to less experienced team members.
  • Ability to solder to IPC J-STD-001 standard.
